Third week

Now that we have removed most of the soil built up within the gaps between the stones of the bank we can see that there is a boundary junction at the point that the bank changes direction. Here the bank decreases in height and it initially appears that the part of the bank running east to west was earlier than the section running north to south.

We suggest this because it seems that stones from the latter are lying on top of stones from the former. Whether we are right or not may be answered by further excavation.
